Mr. Linville Tarter

April 26, 1921 — October 15, 2009

Mr. Linville Tarter, son of the late Earl and Cora Fitzgerald Tarter, was born on April 26, 1921 and he departed this life on Thursday, October 15, 2009 in Somerset, KY having attained the age of 88 years. He was united in marriage to Jewell Lawless Tarter, she survives. Other survivors include; three children, Jim & Patty Tarter, Joyce and Lynn Sowder, and Mark and Sharon Tarter; one brother, Curt Tarter; two sisters, Elgie Weddle and Pauline Chitwood; ten grandchildren, Emily Smith, Ryan Sowder, Rebekah Sowder LeJune, Angela Tarter Harrison, Josh Tarter, Kelly Tarter Harris, Lucas Tarter, Alisha Tarter Wilson, Kara Poole, and Audra Rogers; and 13 great grandchildren. Other than his parents, he was also preceded in death by; two sisters, Mabel Taylor, and Regina Correll, and one brother, Vertrees Tarter. Linville was a graduate of the Nancy High School, he served in the United States Marines Corps during World War II, and later was the co-owner and manager of Tarter Poultry, a Co-owner and Manager of the Somerset Lodge, founder and co-owner of the Cumberland Security Bank. He was also a member of the Somerset/Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce for several years, and an avid bird hunter. Along with his other interests, he was also a lifelong member of the Saline Baptist Church, and he strongly supported Camp Canaan at Nancy, KY. Linville was a kind person who enjoyed life, family, and friends, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and he leaves a host of relatives, friends and church family who mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19th, 2009 at the Saline Baptist Church with Rev. Noah Broughton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38. The family of Mr. Linville Tarter will recieve friends at the Church from 9:00 a.m. Monday morning until time for services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to; Camp Canaan c/o Saline Baptist Church, 2685 W. Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503 or Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Linville Tarter.
