Joanne Story, the daughter of Lona Bowlin Hall and the late Albert Hall was born on June 10, 1943 and she departed this life on March 17, 2017 in Somerset, KY. Other than her mother, she is also survived by her husband Mr. R.C. Story; two sisters, Vicki (and Gary) Roberts of Somerset, KY and Judy (and Bobby) Cates of Richmond, KY and a host of nieces, nephews and other relative who mourn her passing.Joanne was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Joyce Hughes.Joanne was a Professor of Psychology in the Arts and Science Division at Somerset Community College. She was elected to serve on the Somerset Community College Faculty Council for a five year term, 2008-2012. She was also elected by the faculty to serve as Chair of the Somerset Community College Student Appeals Board from 2009 through 2015. She served as Chair of the Faculty Promotion and Tenure Board (2009-2012). She was also a member of the Somerset Community College Advising Team and Faculty Appeals Board. Joanne was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Delta Pl. Joanne served on the Kentucky Network for Collegiate Substance Abuse Prevention. She served as a member of the Advisory Committee to Pulaski County Family Court for 5 years. She received the Kiwanis Leadership Award for service to Kentucky Children. She served on the Kentucky Women's Network Board from 2010 to present. Joanne served as state chair of the Kentucky Business and Professional Women's Mentoring Committee (2011, 2012,2013 and 2014). Her commitment to Kentucky students was reflected in her service as the Chair of the Kentucky Federation of Business and Professional Women's Foundation Scholarship Board. (2008-2012). She was the Faculty Co-Sponsor for Somerset Community College PSI CHI Organization. She coordinated several Spouse/Child Abuse Support groups in several counties and Student Support Groups at Somerset Community College. She served on the Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky Regional Committee.Joanne served as FBPW/Kentucky Vice President; she has served two terms as KFBPW South Central Regional Director. She received the KFBPW/KY Outstanding Regional Director Award in 2003 and served another term as South Central Regional Director in 2004-2005. She again received the KFBPW/KY Regional Director Award in 2005. She has held several office in the Somerset FBPW, including, Vice President, President Elect and two terms as President. She served as chair of several KFBPW/Kentucky Committees including Membership, Issues Management, Expansion Task Force, Mentoring, Foundation Scholarship and Nominations Chair. She was the Kentucky contact person for the Kentucky College Samothrace Organization. Joanne charted five new clubs in Kentucky FBPW.Joanne had stated that she was committed to assisting traditional and non-traditional students realize their goal of obtaining a higher education degree and recognizing that they could succeed. It's all about attitude for success. After all, it is Universal law... "We have to give before we get, we must plant seeds before we reap the harvest. In giving to others, we find ourselves blessed. The Law works to give us back much more than we have sown." She believed we should cherish yesterday, live today and dream for tomorrow. Her goal in education has been and will always be to make a difference in the life of her college students. She believed that the best and most beautiful things cannot be seen or touched...They must be felt with the HEART.She was involved in a large number of professional and civic organizations and will be greatly missed by her community. Joanne was a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church of Richmond, KY and was attending the Beacon Hill Baptist Church at the time of her passing.A funeral service for Mrs. Joanne Story will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Donovan Burton officiating.
