Rev. Clifford Eugene Hansford of Somerset, departed this life on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was 92 years of age.Gene was born in Dayton, Ohio on January 14, 1925, son of the late John L. and Fannie Butcher Hansford. He was united in Marriage on September 14, 1946 to Geneva Bea Whitis.In addition to his wife, Geneva, he is survived by; one son, Larry Gene (and Beverly) Hansford of Somerset; one grandson, Jared Gene (and Katie) Hansford of Lexington, and one great grandson, Lincoln Andrew Hansford. Other survivors include; one brother, Forrest (and Delle) Hansford; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hansford and three nephews, Mark, Scott, and Travis Hansford.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; one brother, James Gary Hansford.Clifford made a profession of faith at Flat Lick Baptist Church in 1959 and was ordained into the ministry in 1961. He was a 1965 graduate of Clear Creek Baptist College, Pineville, KY. He was the first alumni to serve as Clear Creek Trustee. In the next 23 years, he pastored Rock Lick Baptist Church, Woodstock Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Charleston, AR and First Baptist Church of Jamestown, KY. He then served as interim pastor for various churches in Pulaski and Wayne counties for the next 15 years. He was currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset where he taught Sunday School several years.He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in European combat with the 14th Armored Division. He returned to Europe during the Korean Conflict serving four years in the Air Force.He also served with the 100th Division of the Army Reserves until his retirement after 34 years of service. He retired with the rank of First Sargeant E-8. During his military Tenure he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, three major battle stars and many other awards. He was instrumental in forming the American Legion Honor Guard Post # 38, where he served as Chaplain for 18 years. He was also Chaplain for the 14th Armored Division annual meetings for five years.Rev. Hansford had a full and successful life serving the Lord and his country.The family of Rev. Clifford Eugene Hansford will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2017.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday Morning February 27, 2017 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. French Harmon and Rev. John Wilson Officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery with Military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.The American Legion Post # 38 Honor Guard will also serve as pallbearers.Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Rev. Clifford Eugene Hansford during this time.
