John Barkley Horton, Sr.

John Barkley Horton, Sr, age 76, of #1 Kendra Court, Somerset, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009 after a short illness. Mr. Horton was born September 30, 1932, in the Frisby community of Wayne County, Kentucky, to Cicero Clay Horton and Mary Southwood Horton . He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force where he served honorably during the Korean War. Mr. Horton was a retiree of the Kentucky Cabinet for Human Resources, Employment Services. He married Letta Sue Alexander on February 5, 1959, in Monticello, Ky. Mr. Horton is survived by his children: Teri Horton (and Kevin) Crabtree, Tracie H. Foster- New, of Somerset, Ky, John Barkley (and Stephanie) Horton, Jr, of Faubush, Ky, and a daughter-in-law, Debra S. Catron, of Richmond, Ky. Mr. Horton is also survived by six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren: Casi Catron (and Rodney) Todd, Science Hill, Ky, Jared Owen Foster, Monticello, Ky, Sydney Horton Crabtree, Lexington, Ky, Paige Foster (and Elijah) Sexton, Monticello, Ky, Jordan Dyance Catron, Richmond, Ky, Emily Claire New, Somerset, Ky, Michael Hager, Matthew Jones, and Christina Allred, Faubush, Ky. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Rheagan Todd, Rami Todd, Hannah Sexton and Noah Sexton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Letta Sue Alexander Horton, his parents, a brother, Owen Haynes Horton, a sister, Lula Florence Horton, and a son, Billy Michael Catron. He leaves behind many nephews, nieces, other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation for Mr. Horton will be Friday, August 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Saturday, August 22, at 11 a.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Butte and Bro. Daniel Richardson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 38. Burial will be at the Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello, Ky. Contributions are suggested to the West Somerset Baptist Church Mission Fund or the American Stroke Association. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. John Barkley Horton Sr.
