Mr. Robert Wesley Hargis, 86, of Somerset, KY passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital following a short illness.He was born in Somerset, KY on October 9, 1930 , son of the late Elbert and Lela Hargis.Mr. Hargis was a 1948 graduate of Nancy High School . While at Nancy, he was a member of the Nancy Dragons Basketball Team. After high school he served in the United States Marine Corp. He drove a Pulaski County School Bus for 27 years and a Carnation Milk truck for 17 years. He had been a dairy farmer and he raised tobacco. Mr. Hargis also delivered papers for the Commonwealth Journal. In his early 70's he enrolled in real estate classes at the Somerset Community College. He was a member of the Ringgold United Methodist Church. He loved watching westerns, and was an avid Kentucky Wildcat Basketball fan. He and Laura Childers Hargis were united in marriage on July 26, 1952 in Somerset, KY. He loved his wife and family greatly. Survivors include; his wife, Laura Hargis; one daughter, Sharon Murphy of Somerset, KY; one son, Mark (and Debra) Hargis of Monticello, KY; one granddaughter, Ashley Murphy; two grandsons, Adam Murphy and Aaron Murphy all of Somerset, KY; one great granddaughter, Ivory Shepherd of Somerset, KY; nephews, Roddy (and Donna) McFall, Robert Hill, David Dick, and a host of other nephews, nieces, and friends, along with his best friend, Fred Baker of Somerset, KY.Other than his parents, he was also preceded in death by; one daughter, Jeanette Hargis; three sisters, Cordia Hargis, Alberta Dick, and Edna Hill; and one brother, Fred Hargis. Mr. Hargis was a kind person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.The family of Mr. Robert Hargis will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2017.Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by American Legion Post # 38.Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family of Mr. Robert Wesley Hargis.
