Schuyler Delbert New, age 94, of 2924 Oak Hill Road, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born February 22, 1915 in Wayne County, Kentucky to James William New and Margaret Elizabeth Hughes New. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. New was a farmer and a retiree of Lear Siegler, Inc.
He married Vietta Simpson on December 5, 1936 and she preceded him in death on June 26, 1991. To that union was born four children, all of whom survive: David Joe New, Highland, Kentucky; Mildred Ann (and Shirrell) Mullins, Waynesburg, Kentucky; Ronald Delbert (and Karen) New, Michael Ray (and Judy Kay) New, both of Oak Hill Road, Somerset, Kentucky. He is also survived by a sister, Edna Crockett of Patterson Road, Somerset, Kentucky.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Dexter (Gina) Mullins, Carolyn (Raymond) Eckler, Evonna (Farris) Marcum, Joe (Vickie) New, Jeree Gail (Buckwheat)Gilbert, Tammy (David) Richie, Channing (Jason) Vinson, Bryan New, Steven New, Melinda New, Christa (Grant) Burton, Beth (Johnnie) Adams, and Kenneth New. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren: Ashley Smith, Skyler and Chansler Gilbert, Matthew, Luke, and Julia Mullins, Dustyn Eckler, Chase and Chelsea Marcum, Caitlin and Jakob Burton, and Hailey Adams.
He was preceded in death by five brothers; Johnnie, Denny, Arthur, Floyd and Osburn New and four sisters; Pearlie New, Charity Tarter, Lela Calhoun and Flona Gadberry. Also preceding him in death was one grandchild, Lisa Ruth New.
Mr. New was affectionally known by his friends as “Skeeter.” He leaves behind several nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
Visitation for Mr. New will be after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Pulaski Funeral Home he will lie in state at the Oak Hill Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday Morning until after services. The funeral will be held Wednesday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Harold Brown and Rev. Murrell Crockett officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
