Howard Lee VanHook, 85, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at his residence.He was born on May 29, 1931 in White Lily, KY; son of the late Joe and Bertha O'Neil VanHook. He was retired from Palm Beach as a night watchman, and enjoyed gardening. He was a member of Potters Place Baptist Church, and a veteran of the United States Army. He is survived by one son, Steve & (Tracey) VanHook of the Beech Grove Community; six daughters, Debbie England-Hall & (Alan) of Somerset, Karen Carrender of Pine Knot, Cynthia VanHook of Somerset, Regina Irvin & (Randy) of Cartersville, GA, Jessica Shawn Wilson & (Duane) of Somerset, and Jennifer Dawn New of Cartersville, GA; two brothers, Nobel VanHook of Indiana, and Onvie VanHook of Somerset; two sisters, Jessee Carlton and Wanda VanHook-Whitaker both of Indiana; twenty grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Helen Rose-VanHook, whom he married on September 24, 1955, and who passed on December 2, 2011; a son, Marvin Lee VanHook; his parents; three brothers, Arlis VanHook, Harold VanHook, and Orville VanHook; three sisters, Beulah Bumngardner, Agnes Herrin, and Edna Mounce; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Carrender. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Clyde Strunk & Bro. Junior Meece officiating.Burial will be in Clay Hill Cemetery.Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard. Visitation for Mr. Howard VanHook will be after 11 AM, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Pulaski Funeral Home.The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the DAV, Science Hill Chapter.
