William Jennings (Bill) Spurlock of Somerset, KY passed away on Friday December 16, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center. He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Sally Hollin Spurlock; his son, Charles Hugh Spurlock and his wife Tania of Lake Orion, MI; his grandson William Charles (Will) Spurlock of Ferndale, MI; an aunt, Maude Webb Spurlock of Somerset, KY. He is also survived by host of nieces and nephews and close friends.Bill was born in Oneida, KY September 25, 1927 to the late Hugh L. Spurlock and Ida Feltner Spurlock. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles H. Spurlock, and a sister, Geraldine Spurlock Haywood.Bill graduated from Oneida Baptist Institute in l945. He then joined the Army and served in Europe relocating the German prisoners. He was on a military basketball team that played games in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Belgium. He enlisted in the Army Reserves and later he was called to active duty during the Korean War. In 1950 Bill was engaged in combat duty for ten months in Korea. Bill was a true patriot and flew the American flag all year long. After military service he attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY.While living in Michigan he was employed in the automotive industry. He retired from Lamb Technicon in l986. He was also active in Masonic groups. He served as Master of the Harper Woods Lodge in St. Claire Shores, MI and was a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine of Moslem Temple. He was affectionately known in his neighborhood as "Mr. Clean".Bill enjoyed retirement for thirty years. His hobbies included creating beautiful stained glass, fishing, growing flowers and making his famous peanut butter fudge.Bill was an active member of First Christian Church in Somerset, KY where he was a deacon and member of the Orwin Men's Class, and he enjoyed singing in the Men's Choir. He also served as a faithful greeter on Sunday mornings. Bill loved his church family. Honorary pall bearers are members of the Orwin Men's Class.A Celebration of Life service be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Steve Lesher officiating. Visitation will be at 11:00am with service at 12:00. Reception will follow at the church.Private interment at A. R.
