Neva J. Correll

Neva J. Correll, 83, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at her residence. She was born on April 29, 1933 in Felmington, WV; daughter of the late Avon and Virigina Edmond Apperson. She graduated with high distinctions from the University of Kentucky with a Masters in Business Education. She worked in the 2010 U.S. Census, and volunteered to do taxes for the AARP from 1985-2016. Neva, along with Ruby Kelly were the original professors who paved the way to bring computers to classrooms in Pulaski Co. and she was the first Professor to have a computer in her classroom. She was also named in the Who's Who among American Educators. She served on several committees for the college and retired as a Professor in 1994. She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Cary Correll of Somerset; one daughter, Jo Carol McAllister of Morehead; a daughter-in-law, Viola Correll; grandchildren, Misty Williams, Penelope Powell, Jennifer Correll-Lyles, Lizzy Correll, and Bradley Correll; great-grandchildren, George Bridges, Brandon Bridges, Taylor Hardin, and Jasmine-Michael Correll; great-great-grandchildren, Natlie Bridges, and Sawyer Bridges; one sister, Avalene Kittle of Belington, WV.; brothers, Billy Raymond Apperson of South Rockwood, MI., and Dempsey Curtis & (Kathy) Apperson of Apache Junction, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wayne "WW" Correll, whom she married on October 6, 1951 and who passed away on December 5, 2005; a son, Gary Correll; a grandson, Michael Correll; five brothers, Alaric, Thaddeus, Don, Amos, and Alvin; five sisters, Symboline Knight, Elmisha "Sally" Haddix, Icalene "Pat" Smock, Mareda Ann Apperson, and Edna Chambers. A funeral service will be held at 5 PM Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Phelps and Bro. Harold Brown officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation for Ms. Neva J. Correll will be from 6-9 PM, Monday, August 8, 2016 at Pulaski Funeral Home and after 3 PM Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Oak Hill Baptist Church until time for funeral services.
