Edward Bastin Webb

Edward Bastin “Cub” Webb, 95, husband of the late Helen Phelps Webb, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 in Somerset, KY. He was born April 3, 1921, in Science Hill, KY, the son of George S. Webb and Lela Bastin Webb. Edward devoted his life to educating young people. He worked for the Pulaski County Board of Education for 42 years before retiring in 1989. He began his career teaching English and typing at Eubank High School from 1948 to 1950 and then transferred to the new Pulaski County High School, where he taught four years before becoming the school’s principal, a position he held from 1954 until 1965. For the next 24 years he was coordinator of the Chapter I federally granted program and the Adult Education Program. Edward was a veteran of World War II, where he was a radio operator in a half-track for the 7th Armored Division. He was stationed in Europe for 20 months and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was chairman of the Selective Service Board during the 50's, past president of the Pulaski County Outdoorsmen, member of the Pulaski Pistol Club and member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Mr. Webb was a member of the Science Hill Church of the Nazarene where he taught the seniors Sunday School Class for several years. Edward leaves to mourn his passing a number of cousins and a host of friends. Many of his friends were his former students, to whom he continued to refer affectionately as his “boys and girls” even as they became senior citizens themselves. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. Curtis Sellers officiating. The family of Mr. Edward Webb will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. Monday until time for services at Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Science Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 38 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Pulaski County Humane Society or the American Legion Post # 38. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Edward Bastin “Cub” Webb.
