Dr. Velma Perkins 93 of South Grandview Ave, Burnside, KY passed on April12, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Hospital in Somerset, KY.
She was born in Burnside on March 26, 1916 the daughter of the late John M. Perkins and Gertrude Toby Perkins.
She was a college professor at Andrew College in Georgia where she served as Academic Dean and St. Mary’s College of Maryland where she taught for over 30 years, she was a graduate of Georgetown College in Ky. with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Peabody College in Tennessee with a Master’s Degree and Ball State University in Indiana where she received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in English.
Dr. Perkins was a member of First Baptist Church of Burnside, Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as a Regent, Pulaski Historical Society where she served as president, and a member of the Burnside Women’s Club.
Dr. Perkins is survived by six cousins; Stella Hargis Hail, Eugene Hargis, Milton Toby, Mike Toby, John Robert Toby and Doris Eggers.
Funeral services for Dr. Velma Perkins will be held on Wednesday April 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home, with Dr. John Mark Toby officiating; burial will follow in the Rock Lick Cemetery.
The family of Dr. Velma Perkins will receive Friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday April 14, 2009 at the Pulaski Funeral Home.
