James Paul Norton was born Nov. 30, 1923 in the Mark community of Pulaski County. He died Tuesday at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was a combat infantryman during World War Two. He was wounded in the Battle of the Herken Forest in 1944. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Two Bronze Service Stars.
He and Betty Carol Suttle were married Jan. 27, 1951.
He was a member of the Orwin Class at First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, his son, Jack and daughter-in-law, of Richmond, Va., two grandchildren, Andrew, of Baltimore. Md., and Lucy, of Richmond. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl, and two brothers, Omer and Lowell.
Visitation will be at Pulaski Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Somerset Christian Church and Mr. Norton will lie in state at the church from 11:00 a.m. Friday. Until time for services. The Revs. Doug Couch and Jeff Bell will officiate.
Burial will be in the Bobbitt Cemetery of Pulaski County. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
