Mr. G.B. Starnes, age 79 of Somerset, KY passed away at 6:00 p.m. surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.
G.B. was born July 7, 1936 in Garrard County, KY to the late Alfred and Elizabeth (McKinney) Starnes. He married Betty Dollins Starnes in Lexington, KY on December 21, 1957.
G.B. retired from East Kentucky Power after 25 years of service. He belonged to First Baptist Church, Somerset, KY and served as usher at Beacon Hill Baptist Church for many years. G.B. was a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loved his family dearly. He love sports, watching Reds baseball and playing golf, but his greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren and watching his sons and grandchildren play sports.
G.B. is survived by his wife Betty, two sons Ronnie (and Annette) Starnes, Gerald “Jerry” Starnes, four grandchildren Courtney (and Kevin) Woods, Jessica Starnes, Tyler Starnes Logan Starnes, four great-grandchildren Jolee Woods, triplets- Jaxon, Braxton and Kinlee Woods. He also leaves behind three sisters Nadine (and Thomas) Scott, Joetta Talbott of Lancaster and Jane Conley of Somerset, sister-in-law Marie Starnes of Trotwoods, OH and a host of relatives and friends who all mourn his passing.
G.B was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Toney Tackett, two brothers, Paul and Billy Starnes, a nephew Paul Wayne Starnes and a brother-in-law Garnel Conley.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Tyler and Logan Starnes, Kevin Woods, nephew Tom Scott, lifelong friends Robert McQuerry, Ralph Parson and Estill Erp. Honorary pallbearers will be Courtney Woods, Jessica Starnes, Herlin McQuerry, Don Price, Fitch Sewell and Mike Bourne.
We will have a celebration of his life at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Sam Crawford and Dr. French Harmon officiating.
Burial will follow at Paint Lick Cemetery in Garrard County, KY.
The family of Mr. Starnes will receive friends at Pulaski Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2015.
In lieu of flowers family request expressions of sympathy be made to the Hospice of Lake Cumberland and/or First Baptist Church Building Fund.
