Mrs. Thelma Ruth (Hughes) Cornett, daughter of the late Fred and Martha (Lucas) Hughes was born in Wise, Virginia on April 24, 1920 and departed this life on Tuesday February 10, 2009 at Whitesburg ARH in Whitesburg, Kentucky having attained the age of 88 years.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Curtis Cornett, 1 sister; Juanita Raleigh, 2 brothers; John and Paul Hughes and 1 grandson; Shawn Cornett.
Thelma is survived by 4 sons; James (and Janice) Cornett of Burnside, Kentucky; Harold (and Ivalee) Cornett of Beavercreek, Ohio; Richard (and Rosina) Cornett of Kettering, Ohio; Orell (and Barbara) Cornett of Huber Heights, Ohio, 1 brother; Jerry (and Helen) Hughes of Gainesville, Texas; 1 sister; Elizabeth Adkins of Denison, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who mourn her passing.
Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burnside and a Charter Member of the Blackie Missionary Baptist Church in Blackie, Kentucky and a Lifetime member of the United Mine Workers Association. Thelma also worked as a Substitute Teacher and a Dietician.
Funeral services for Thelma Cornett will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Burnside, Kentucky at 11:00a.m., with Rev. Richard Christian officiating.
The family of Mrs. Cornett will receive friends on Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 6-8p.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home and after 10:00a.m., until funeral service time on Friday.
Burial will be held in the Burnside Cemetery.
