Dorothy Marie Godsey Casada, age 83, died peacefully on July 31, 2015 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her daughter Kim Conner, son-in-law Lewis Conner, and Lewis’ mother JoAnn Conner were by her side. Dorothy was born August 19, 1931 in Tateville, KY, the daughter of William Fount Godsey and Helen Colyer Godsey.
Dorothy loved to sew and began working at Goodall, a local sewing factory, at age 16, and worked there for 24 years. In 1948, she married the love of her life, Charles Harding Casada of Sloans Valley, KY. Dorothy and Harding had one child, a daughter, Kimberly Jill. When Harding became ill in 1972, Dorothy quit her job at the sewing factory, known then as Palm Beach, and took over managing the family’s business, Casada’s Grocery. Dorothy became sole proprietor of the store in 1976 when Harding passed away after a short struggle with cancer.
Dorothy was a member of Sloans Valley Baptist Church.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Pauline Howard, Doris Cundiff, June Hollars Kidd, three brothers, William Godsey, Sam “Tutor” Godsey, and Jerry Godsey, and one niece Sandra Hollars Nicholas. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kim (and Lewis) Conner, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fair Oaks Nursing Home and Hospice of Lake Cumberland for caring for Dorothy during her illness.
A funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 1:00 PM eastern time in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral home with Bro. Bobby Conner officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 after 6:00 PM eastern time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or The Alzheimer’s Association.
