Sally Cook Lunsford left her earthly home and joyfully entered into the arms of her Heavenly Father on June 21, 2015. Born on February 13, 1919, Sally was the youngest of twelve children born to Marshall and Eliza Loveless Cook. She was predeceased by her first husband (Cecil Henderson), her parents, and all siblings which included five brothers; Ed, Lewis, Jessie, Arthur, and Johnnie Cook and six sisters; Bertha Gregg, Ollie Godby, Elizabeth Richardson, Perlie Cook, Hettie VanHook and Lillian Gibson. Sally was a loving Daughter, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Great-Aunt, and Great-Great Aunt and will be missed by family and friends. She will be forever loved and remembered by all that knew and loved her.
She was blessed with only one child, Cecil Travis Henderson, who passed away at age 16 of Nephritis, an inflammation and disease of the kidneys, in Clinton, Tennessee.
She worked at the Methodist Home in Cincinnati, Ohio and while living there met, fell in love, and later married Rev. John (Joe) Oliver Lunsford on November 19, 1962. “Uncle Joe” also preceded her in death on November 13, 1998.
Sally touched the lives of many people over the years and she was everyone’s “Aunt.” She touched many souls through prayer and truly living her belief in Christ. During sickness and troubles, relatives and friends would call for her prayers (because everyone believed in her strength of prayer) as her prayers were seen as a direct line to Jesus. Aunt Sally was a mentor to many seeking a path to becoming a Christian, living their life for Christ and wanting to gain a better understanding of the Bible. Her outbreaks of song were often and of beloved, familiar hymns. Sally loved knowing Jesus and wanted those around her to know the peace of having him as their Savior. Those that attended church with her are fully aware of her powerful and frequent testimonies. She was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Somerset, Kentucky for many, many years.
