Jack Milton Keeney departed from this life on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at the age of 68, with his family at his side.
Jack was born in Pulaski County, KY on September 8, 1946, to his late parents Gilbert Murphy Keeney and EmmaLyn “Jackie” Hines Keeney. He was the husband to Patricia E. Keeney, and brother to Judy (David) Hall, of Richmond, KY. Jack is survived by his son Kasey Keeney and daughter Kimberly Sutton; step-daughters Alison and Stacey Pyles; grandchildren William, Erin, Erika, Kolby; niece Amy Ferris; nephews Brian and Benjy Hall; brother-in-law David (Paula) Eubank; nephews David, Eric , and James Allen Eubank.
Jack grew up as a Somerset Briar Jumper, before traveling to TN to attend and graduate from Bethel College. He remained in TN teaching and coaching at Gleason and McKenzie High School, before making his way back to KY. Jack first moved to Campbellsville, KY, serving as a Coach then Principal at Campbellsville Elementary School, before returning to his hometown Somerset, KY as Principal at Meece Middle School.
Jack was well known in Somerset for his leadership in education and the community, and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a strong believer in his community, and the influence he could have to further progress economic growth in Somerset. After retiring from 32 years in Education, Jack became the Executive Director of the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce. His Leadership facilitated much viable growth in the community for 10 years, implementing economic strategies through local activities and projects. Jack’s focus then shifted to the non-profit organization God’s Food Pantry, beginning his new role as Director where he “helped to feed those in our community who are hungry.”
Most recently, Jack served as the Executive Director of the Mill Springs Battlefield to increase awareness and tourism in our community. Jack was an avid fan of the UK Wildcats, and regularly attended the UK Women’s Basketball games and tournaments. Jack was known for his tailgating gatherings before UK football games, and playing golf with his buddies on a regular basis. After he was diagnosed with cancer Fall 2014, Jack and his family faced trials and tribulations battling this disease. After 8 months his body succumbed to the cancer, but it never defeated the mind and spirit of Jack Keeney, the son, father, grandfather, teacher, principal, coach, community leader and friend we all know, love and will forever miss.
The family of Mr. Jack Keeney will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Jack Wilhelm officiating.
