Monta Cowan Steigerwalt, daughter of the late Jimmy W. and Anna Hardwick Cowan was born at Frazer, Kentucky on November 26, 1913 and departed this life on December 15, 2008 at the McCreary County Health and Rehabilitation Clinic in Pine Knot, Kentucky having attained the age of 95 years.
Monta was a homemaker, a member of the Order of The Eastern Star for over 60 years, and a member of the Sulpher Springs Methodist Church in New Castle Indiana for over 55 years.
Her first marriage was to Ora Dilkey and was later married to Frank Steigerwalt they preceded her in death.
Monta is survived by one step-Daughter; Mariam (Earl) Hummel of New Castle Indiana, one step-son; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steigerwalt of Columbus Indiana, two brothers; Troy Cowan of Whitley City, Kentucky and Grover (Phyllis) Cowan of Squim, Washington; five nieces; Ruth Ann Thompson, Sue Young, Patsy Hudson, Suzelle and Patricia and six nephews; Kenneth, Bruce, Steve, Michael, Dana and Lloyd Cowan, and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents ,one step-son; Marvin Dilkey, four brothers; Charlie, Olen, Estel, and Robert Cowan and by three nephews Charles, James, and Jimmy Cowan.
She was a loving and giving person who will be missed by all that knew her.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Sam Hutcherson and the staff of McCreary Nursing and Rehab for their kind and wonderful care to Monta.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 17, 2008 @ 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Butte officiating with burial to follow in the West Somerset Cemetery.
The Family of Monta Steigerwalt will receive friends at Pulaski Funeral Home Wednesday December 17, 2008 from 9-11 a.m.
The family wishes that expression of sympathy go to the Mission fund of West Somerset Baptist Church.
