James F. "Jim" Vaught, age 88, passed away on the 11th day of November 2014 in Somerset, Kentucky.
He was born July 25, 1926 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, and was the fifth child of the late Maurice O. and Lessie J. Phelps Vaught. He attended the Camp Ground Grade School, Eubank High School, and the University of Kentucky. He was an Army veteran of WW-II, serving in Europe with the 35th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division. He was employed as Industrial Service Representative, Department of Economic Security for twenty-two years, and was in the real estate business for several years. He also served as deacon and was a member of the Somerset First Baptist Church; past master of the Woodstock Masonic Lodge #639, where he was a member in good standing for more than 60 years. He also served as past president and zone chairman and deputy district governor of the Lions Club. Jim also served as a board member of the Somerset – Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce; and past board member, past president and chairman of the Board of the Somerset Pulaski County Industrial Foundation. He negotiated with Crane, Lear Siegler and Tecumseh products when they were looking for a plant site and selected Somerset, Kentucky. Jim assisted in the formation of American Legion Post # 38 honor guard, and many years he has been a member of the American Legion Post # 38 and served with the Honor Guard that he helped establish.He was also involved in the real estate business for more than 50 years.
He was united in marriage to Vivian Merritt on December 3, 1950, they had no children, and she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Arnold Vaught and three sisters, Alma Vaught, Alice Vaught and Opal Vaught Withers. He is survived by a brother-in-law, several nieces, nephews and other relatives who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., November 14, 2014 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. French Harmon and Rev. David Muse officiating. Burial will follow at the Somerset Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
The family of Mr. James F. “Jim” Vaught will receive friends Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Legion Post # 38 Honor Guard.
