Betty Carol Suttle Norton, 84, of Shopville, died Thursday, September 25, 2014.
The third daughter of Thomas Henry Suttle, a Southern Railway depot agent, and Bertha Griffin Suttle, a former schoolteacher, she was born March 1, 1930 in Winfield, Tennessee.
Her father was later transferred to the railway depot at Eubank, Kentucky. He built a house on a farm at Estesburg.
Carol was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in 1948 from Eubank High School.
After high school, she moved to Somerset, where she worked and became a member of First Christian Church. She was also courted by a young World War II veteran, James Paul Norton. They were married January 27, 1951 by the church's pastor, the Rev. Lee Davis Fisher.
She was a member of the Adams Class at her church and was active in the Pulaski County Homemakers.
She was noted for baking birthday cakes for family members, friends and neighborhood children. For years she baked a cake each year for a favorite uncle with whom she shared a birthday.
She loved to travel with family members to the Smoky Mountains; Nashville, Tennessee; and North Carolina.
She cared for her husband, who was severely wounded in combat in WWII, until his death in 2009. She also cared for her invalid mother-in-law until her death in 1974.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant brother, Harold Woodrow Suttle; her brother, Denver Lee Suttle; and two sisters, Ruth Eleanor Epperson and Marjorie Rhea Carpenter.
She is survived by a sister, Anna Clarice Turpin, of Huber Heights, Ohio; her son, Jack, his wife and two grandchildren, all of Richmond, Virginia.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to her caretaker of the past four years, Ellen Sullivan, for her devoted, round-the-clock care.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, September 30, at the First Christian Church.
The funeral will be held at noon Tuesday and conducted by the Rev. Steve Lesher, pastor of First Christian Church, and the Rev. Jeff Bell, pastor of First Christian Church, Paris, Kentucky.
Burial will be in the Bobbitt Cemetery, Shopville.
