Howard Allison Conley, son of the late Allison and Roxie Anna Buck Conley who was formerly of the Conley Bottom Area of Wayne County, was born on July 20, 1921 in Stanford, KY and departed this life on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Sunrise Manor of Somerset, KY having attained the age of 87 years. Howard was a faithful servant of the Lord during his life.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Margaret Louise Bridges Conley of Somerset, KY; two daughters, Lindy (and Terry) Evans of Berea, KY and Janet (and Mac) Godby of Somerset, KY; two grandsons, Grant (and Christine) Evans of Berea, KY and Josh Citron of Kingsport, TN; two granddaughters, Jennye (Chris) Montford of San Antonio, TX, Erin (and Matt) Blair of Wilmington, North Carolina; two great granddaughters, Kaylee Faith and Abigail Grace Blair; two step-grandchildren, Heath and Chad Evans; one nephew, Dr. Harry Lee (and Barbara) Conley of Murray, KY; one niece, Jeanie Williams of Lexington, KY; several cousins and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special friend, Mr. Cleo Routin.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Vernon Conley, and one niece, Clara Conley.
He Graduated from Stanford High School in 1940 and he then attended the Signal Corps and the Great Lakes Naval Training School where he the served 4 years in the United States Navy during World War II. While serving his country, he was also a member of the Great Lakes Naval Choral.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset, serving as an usher for over 40 years and an assistant Sunday School Youth Superintendent for 2 years. He was also a member of the Somerset Masonic Lodge # 111 F & A.M. and the Somerset American Legion Post # 38.
He and his brother, Harry established Conley Sales Company, a distributor for the Tom Houston Peanut Company. He was also an avid Fisherman and Golfer and he will be remembered for his love and devotion for the Lord, his family, friends and all of the people that his life touched.
The family of Mr. Howard Conley wants to thank all of the nurses and staff at Sunrise Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation for the love and care that they displayed while caring for our loved one.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Somerset First Baptist Church with Dr. French Harmon and Rev. Joe Altman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery with military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
The family of Mr. Howard Conley will receive friends at the Somerset First Baptist Church from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 until time for services at the Church.
They family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Somerset First Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family is honored to have the following individuals serve as pallbearers to Mr. Conley; Mr. Grant Evans, Mr. Terry Evans, Mr. Josh Citron, Mr. Mac Godby, Mr. Frank Jackson and Mr. Matt Blair.
