Ella Curtis Mize Gilliland

Ella Curtis Mize Gilliland, age 95, of 252 Leo Gilliland Road. Somerset, KY., passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the McCreary Health & Rehabilitation facility following a short illness. Mrs. Ella Gilliland was born in the Stab community on May 29, 1913; she is the daughter of the late James Riley and Sarah Alice Whitis Mize. She was a retired employee of Shopville Elementary School where she served as head cook, and was a member of the Pleasant Run Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband; Leo W. Gilliland whom she married on March 17, 1933 in Somerset, KY., and just celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year. Mrs. Gilliland is survived by three children; Wilson J. (and Delana) Gilliland of Louisville, KY., Joyce Fern (and Bobby) Snell of Bellbrook, OH, and Jackie L. (and Fayrene P.) Gilliland of Somerset, KY. Ella Gilliland also leaves behind six grandchildren; Ricky L. (and Gayle) Snell of Miamisburg, OH., David J. (and Dee) Gilliland of New Albany, IN., Timothy L.(and Julie) Gilliland of Fort Worth, TX., Janice G. Walthall of New Albany, IN., Pamela G. (and Ronald) Ebling of Somerset, KY., Jacinda G. (and Timothy) Foster of Belmont, NC., And nine great-grandchildren; Scott Matthew Snell of Germantown, OH., Ryan Timothy Snell of Miamisburg, OH., Megan (and Alex) Thompson of Panama City, FL., Lindsay E. Walthall, Jeffrey A. Walthall and Tyler Gilliland all of New Albany, IN., Alexandra Gilliland of Fort Worth, TX., Jake Gilliland Foster of Belmont N.C., and Shelby Nicole Ebling of Somerset, KY., and two great-great grandchildren; Makenzi Jade Walthall and Gabriella Faith Walthall both of New Albany, IN. Mrs. Gilliland was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers; William Arthur Mize, Bertie Thomas Mize, George Freddie Mize, Hiram Lucian Mize, Theodore Roosevelt Mize, Earl Fairbanks Mize, Vola Bee Mize and James Riley Mize, three sisters; Cora Emma Mize Smith, Nannie Estella Mize Eaton, and Mary Zena Mize Smortheman. Funeral Services for Mrs. Ella Curtis Mize Gilliland will be held on Monday, September, 15, 2008 at 11:00a.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Donald McKinney, and Rev. Roy Helm officiating. The family of Mrs. Gilliland will receive friends on Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 6-9p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Somerset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the Pleasant Run Baptist Church, or to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements.
