Mr. J. T. Speaks, peacefully passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the age of 72. He was born June 4th, 1942 in Ano, KY to Oscar and Zella Hash Speaks. They both preceded him in death; also preceding him in death are three brothers; Arnold, Edwin, and Kenneth, and three sisters, Edith, Faye, and Mildred.
On October 3rd, 1964 he married Sharon Rae Snell, who survives. JT and Sharon were blessed through 49 years of marriage with two children, Johnny (and Becky), and Tracey (and Matt) Livesay. He was also blessed with six grandchildren, Courtney, Shawn, Emilee, Erinn, Marshall, and Ty. He is also survived by two brothers, Doyle (and Marion) Speaks, and Conway (and Mary Deane) Speaks and three sisters, Bonnie (and Jack) Hansford, and Betty (and Dennis) Hale, and Marilyn Speaks.
JT served in the U.S. Army from October of 1966 through October 1968 where he was honorably discharged with the rank of SGT E5, He did his basic training at Fort Knox, KY and completed his AIT at Fort Polk, LA, Fort Carson, CO, and Ft Riley, KS. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and SE7E Geneva Convention Medal. He served as a Casualty Notification Officer through the majority of his military career. He also was a Master Mason at Woodstock Lodge #639 F & AM.
Throughout his life he always had an interest in fishing, and cars; but, he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and a host of neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
