Mr. Orville A. Hargis, son of the late James Shelton and Florence Mounce Hargis, was born on January 19, 1932 in the Ruth Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky and he departed this life in Lexington, Kentucky on Monday, June 16, 2014 having attained the age of 82 years.
He was united in marriage to Joyce Meece Hargis on September 27, 1958, she survives. Other survivors include; two daughters, Sandra Current of Lexington, Kentucky and Denise Hargis of Flagstaff, Arizona; three grandsons, Chris (and Natalie) Downs, Alex Current and Eli Current; one great granddaughter, Chloe Aiden Downs; two brothers, Kenneth (and Audry) Hargis, and Howard (and Fayrene) Hargis, one sister, Beverly Burton; his mother-in-law, Nellie Meece; one brother-in-law, Leo Meece; one sister-in-law, Juanita Whitis and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by; his father-in-law, Virgil Meece; the following brothers-in-law, Lowell Burton, and Bruce Whitis; and one sister-in-law, Betty J. Whitis.
Orville accepted the Lord when he was 10 years old at the Clay Hill Baptist Church and was a member there until 1958, when he married and moved his letter to the Providence Baptist Church in 1955 when the men of the church asked him to be a deacon. Other offices he held over the years include; Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, and Church treasurer for at least 28 years. He loved the church and was always responsible with the roles he held within it.
He joined the Army National Guard in January of 1952 and served until 1960, then went to work for Cumberland Wood and Chair factory for 45 years and close to 10 years for Quality Woodworks. He would go to trade shows, see machine that were being used at those trade shows, then come home and build a machine that would do the same job for a tremendous savings to the company.
His hobbies were camping with the family and his brother and their family and fishing. He also always enjoyed wood working.
Orville was a kind Christian man who will be greatly missed by those who knew him, and he leaves a vast host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Dalous Sears, Bro. Jimmy Molen, and Bro. Ronnie Meece officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Mr. Hargis received friends yesterday from 5 to 8 p.m. and will receive friend today from 9:30 a.m. until time for services at the Pulaski Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Providence Cemetery Fund or the White Lily Cemetery Fund.
