Mr. Herbert Randall Hamm, son of the late William O. "Dault" and Bertha Estelle Sears Hamm was born in the Alcalde Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky on April 7, 1935 and he joined our Lord and Savior on August 11, 2008 while at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and under the care of Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
He is survivedMrs. Betty Jo Glover Hamm, she survives. Other survivors include; one son, Michael A. Hamm of Brandon, FL; three daughters, Melinda L. Shunkwiler of Anchorage, Alaska, Vickie L. (and Darrell) Haight of Peoria, Arizona and Terry J. Harrison of Deltona, Florida; nine grandchildren, Kristopher and Wesley Shunkwiler, Hagan Stone, Jerry Oliver, Darik and Seth Haight, Crystal Hamm, Brandy Wilcox and Thomas Wilcox; five great grandchildren, Catherine Stone, Dawson Stone, Braden Haight, Randy Oliver and Jace Oliver; six sisters, Ruby I. Hines of Cincinnati, Ohio, Emma Lois (and Dallis) Hutcheson of Somerset, Kentucky, Leona M. (and Danny) McBeath of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Sylvia J. Urich of Indianapolis, Indiana, Opal Estelle (and Robert) Wallace of Russell Springs, Kentucky and Loretta Sue (and Roger) Smith of Park City, Kentucky; one step brother, Carl Brent Leigh, Eubank, Kentucky and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by; his stepmother, Opal Marie Phelps Hamm; two brothers, William R. and Ralph F. Hamm; two sisters, Juanita M. Turner and Judy A. Gorham; a daughter-in-law, Karen A. Hamm and one son-in-law; Alan E. Harrison.
Herbert served our country and retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 21.5 years of service. He was honored to have served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Mr. Hamm was baptized and a member of the New Enterprise Baptist Church, the Veteran of Foreign Wars of Orlando Florida Chapter, the American Legion , Orlando Chapter, the Henry County D.A.V. #155 of Orlando, FL, he was also a life member of the F.R.A. of Sanford, Fl and he was also a life member of the Navy League of the United States.
He was a kind person who loved life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Blake Pinson and Rev. Marvin Rose officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum Chapel of Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Mr. Herbert Randall Hamm will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
