Alteena Lula (Brinson) Meece of Somerset, KY departed this life on May 17, 2014 at 10:45 P. M. having attained the age of 79 and 6 months.
She was born on November 3, 1934 at Colo KY to Jonathan Francis and Betty Phelps Brinson, the 6th of 10 children.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Vestal R. Meece on June 19, 1954 of Ruth, KY. by Rev. Jack Ridener of Somerset, KY.
Survivors include one son David Meece (Laura) of Jackson, MO. Four grandchildren, Phillip (Merry Ellen), Nathan(Laura), Lydia and Peter Meece of Jackson, MO.
She is also survived by four sisters, Mildred Glover, Genell Tuggle of Miamisburg, OH. Dorothy Godby (Wayne) of Colo, KY, Pearl Ping (Joe) of Ruth ,KY; one brother, Alonzo Brinson (Meldia) of Somerset, KY, one brother-in-law, Raymond Rose of Cincinnati, OH.
She leaves behind four special caregivers Sally, Sherry, Judy, and Bonnie without whom her last years at home would not have been possible. She leaves behind a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters, Raymond J. Brinson, Somerset, KY, Christine Rose of Cincinnati, OH, Lera Brown of Cincinnati,OH, and Edith Rose of Kokomo, IN.
Alteena has been a devoted pastor’s wife for over 27 years and always served as a children Sunday school and Bible school Teacher. She retired from Palm Beach in 1998 and since then has been a homemaker until Alzheimer disease symptoms developed in 2004.
She loved her Lord Jesus, her church, her husband and family very much. This gave her a full and meaningful life until her disease gradually took over.
The family of Mrs Alteena Meece will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 21st, and from 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church until time for services. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church Thursday May 22nd at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Danny Pace and Chaplain David Green officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pall-bearers will be her grandchildren and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Gideon’s International, or Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
