Herman W. Schoolcraft

January 9, 1925 — April 21, 2014

Mr. Herman W. Schoolcraft, son of the late Christian Perk and Stella Warner Schoolcraft, was born in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, January 9, 1925 and he departed this life on Monday, April 21, 2014 having attained the age of 89 years. He was united in marriage to Ernestine Schoolcraft, she preceded him in death. Survivors include; two sons, Charles (and Vicki) Schoolcraft and Tommy Schoolcraft both of Somerset, Kentucky; two daughters, Joyce (and Garry) Greene of Somerset, Kentucky and Peggy (and Ken) Pearson of St. Petersburg, Florida; two brothers, George Schoolcraft of London, Kentucky and C. P. (and Edna) Schoolcraft of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Carolyn Reeves of Nashville, Tennessee and Linda (and Bill) Lucas of Green Valley, Arizona; ten grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Herman was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset for 65 years and he has served as a deacon for 51 years. He was a retired manager of South Kentucky RECC, a World War II army veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne. He also served in various capacities in the following organizations, The Somerset School Board, The Somerset Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Foundation, he served on the Board of Directors of Mutual Federal, 4-H, and Humana Hospital. He was past president of the Somerset Jaycees, and the Somerset Rotary Club. He was also an avid golfer and loved his dog Poochie. Mr. Schoolcraft was a kind person who believed in being a positive influence in his community, he was a kind person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him and he leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 11:00 in the old sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Somerset with Dr. French Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery. The family of Mr. Herman W. Schoolcraft will receive friends on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church and after 10:00 Friday morning until time for services at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 honor guard. In lieu of flowers family request expressions of sympathy be made to United Way and First Baptist Church. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be handling all arrangements for Mr. Herman W. Schoolcraft.
