Howard Hargis

April 18, 1926 — July 3, 2008

Mr. Howard Hargis, son of the later Walter and Golda Hargis, was born in Somerset, Kentucky on April 18, 1926 and he departed this life on Thursday, July 3, 2008 having attained the age of 82 years. Survivors include his wife; Mavis Hargis with whom he was united in marriage on December 22, 1956, three daughters; Karen Dykes, Sherry (and Mike) Eaton, and Linda (and Gerald) Collingsworth, three grandchildren; Shannon (and Kevin) Fraser of Kennesaw, GA., Aaron Eaton, Amanda Eaton (and Brian Clothier), all of Somerset, two great grandchildren; Chancellor and Max Fraser. Mr. Hargis is also survived by eight sisters and brothers; Vera Hargis, Imogene (and Arnold) Stogsdill of Stanford KY., Glady’s (and Clell) Whitaker, Ella B. Phelps, Harold (Betty) Hargis, Violet (Dewey) Hargis, Christine (and Carlos) Hargis, Nadine (and Wayne Lee) Phelps, Jetta (and Wayne) Richardson. Mr. Hargis is proceeded in death by a son-in-law; Jackie Dykes, a brother; Wayne Hargis, brother-in-laws Ray Hargis, Phillip Phelps, and a nephew; Carlos B. Hargis Jr. Mr. Hargis was a farmer and livestock dealer. Howard was a veteran of World War II. He served as a member of the Pulaski County School Board of Education and was a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Hargis was also a member of the Lake Cumberland Riding Club for many years. Howard enjoyed his horses and riding throughout his life. Mr. Hargis accepted the Lord and attended Whetstone Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Funeral services for Mr. Hargis will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Troy Merrick and Bro. Gene Tarter officiating. The family of Mr. Howard Hargis will receive friends on Friday, July 4, 2008 from 5-9p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Whetstone Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers expression of sympathy may be made to the Whetstone Cemetery Fund.
