Mr. Wendel Eugene Norfleet, son of the late Hulen and Hattie Adams Norfleet, was born in Nancy, Kentucky on Monday, July 21, 1930 and he departed this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in Somerset, Kentucky having attained the age of 83 years, 6 months and 1 day.
He was united in marriage to Bernell “Nell” Brown Norfleet on May 27, 1960 at Saint Mildred’s Catholic Church, and they were blessed to spend 53 years together before his passing. Other than his wife, he is also survived by; three daughters, Vicky (and Steve) Bumgardner, Lisa (and Jackie) McKinney both of Somerset, Kentucky, and Donna Norfleet (and Lenny Bridgers) of St. Louis, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Eric Bumgardner, Sean Bumgardner, Jon McKinney, Kelli (and Chris) Fain, Ashley McKinney, Thomas McKinney, Andrew McKinney and Mindy Phelps; also surviving is one brother, Dale Norfleet of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Louise (and Ed) Jones and Maxine Nelson both of Somerset, Kentucky and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives who mourn his passing.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by; four brothers, Leon, Harold, Linville, and Hersel Norfleet, and two sisters, Ruth Frye, and Evelyn Norfleet.
Wendel was the owner & operator of Norfleet Service Station for more than 50 years until he retired in 2009. He was a member of Saint Mildred’s Catholic Church and was an avid U.K. sports fan and a Cincinnati Reds Fan. He loved gardening and was well known for his homemade candy. He was also a talented guitar player and loved listening to country and gospel music.
A Christian Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mildred’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2014 with Father Jeffery Estacio officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Mr. Wendel Eugene Norfleet will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 and at St. Mildred’s from 10:00 a.m Saturday until time for services.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, contribution take the form of contributions to Saint Mildred’s Outreach Center.
