Glen Edward Major, 89, of Somerset, died Saturday.
He was born to the late George and Beatrice Major, March 4, 1924, in Bandy, KY. Glen graduated from Eubank High School in 1943 and went on to serve in the US military during WW II. He was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After military service, he married Vaugnetta Azbill, and the couple relocated to Somerset in 1956.
Glen was employed by the US Postal Service until he retired in 1984. He was a member of the Somerset United Methodist Church. Glen was an avid fan of Kentucky Wildcat basketball. He was a frequent traveler and had visited all fifty states.
Glen is survived by Vaugnetta, his wife of 58 years; daughter Glenna Major (David Weber) of Louisville, and son Mark Major (Heather) of Versailles. He also is survived by brother Clarence Major and sister Faye Major both of Florence, three beloved granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by sister Opal Meece.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
Graveside service and burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Mill Springs National Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38
