Robert E. “Pete” Hughes, son of the late Clarence M. and Elizabeth Ping Hughes was born in Excine, Iowa on March 27, 1920 and departed this life on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 having attained the age of 88 years.
Mr. Hughes was united in marriage to his loving wife Verda Mae Hines on July 15, 1944, she survives. Other survivors include one son, Robert E. Hughes JR of Somerset, KY; one brother, Gerald W. Hughes of Somerset,KY; two grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth (and Scott)Phelps, of Lexington, Ky and Mitchell Ryan Hughes also of Lexington, KY; one great grandson, Austin Michael Phelps and a host of nieces and nephews.
Robert Hughes was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria Jean Hughes; four brothers, Max Elmer Hughes, Clarence Hughes Jr, Harold Hughes and Cyril Hughes; one sister, Nora Blanche Hughes and one great grandson, Matthew Scott Phelps.
Mr. Hughes was of the Baptist faith and was retired from East Kentucky Power Cooperative, and also had worked at Osborne Construction, and Prather Lumber Company. He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Sergeant during World War II.
Funeral Services for Mr. Robert E. Hughes will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 3:30p.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Bradley officiating.
The family of Mr. Hughes will receive friends on Friday, June 6, 2008 from 6-9p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home.
Burial will be held in Clay Hill Cemetery.
