Mrs. Shirley J. Helton, age 77 of Tateville, Kentucky daughter of the late Samuel and Bertha Wilson New was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on June 9, 1936 and departed this life on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital due to a longtime illness.
She was united in marriage to Jesse T. Helton on August 5, 1955, he preceded her in death.
Shirley is survived by one son: Richard (and Diana) Helton of Somerset, Kentucky; two daughters: Denise Hardwick of Tateville, Kentucky and Mary Taylor of Alabama; five grandsons: Eric, Aaron and Nathan Hardwick, Kyle and Greg Taylor; five great-grandchildren: Jailynn R. Hardwick, Jacob Adams, Kayla Cain Hall, Kelsey Smith and Lynda “Lynnie Beth” Smith and one great-great-grandson: Aiden. She also leaves behind four sisters: Leoda Hughes, Roberta Swan, Jewell Taylor, Freda Calhoun all of Ohio and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will dearly miss Shirley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter: Carolyn Sue Helton who died at infancy, two brothers: Lawrence New and Earl New, one niece, one nephew and one special friend: Howard Eichelbrenner.
Shirley was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker and caretaker to all. She will be greatly missed by all whom she loved.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Chaplain Greg Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Sloans Valley Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Shirley J. Helton will receive friends after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 until time for services at Pulaski Funeral Home.
