Roy Arvis Franklin Girdler, age 82, son of the late Henry Jackson and Coatney Wilson Girdler, departed this life on Saturday, October 5, 2013.
Roy was born on October 29, 1930 in the Pleasant Hill Community of Pulaski County, Somerset, Kentucky
He was united in marriage to the late Minnie Katherine Dick on February 3, 1951. They were married for more than 62 years.
Roy leaves behind three sons: Frankie (and Sherry) Girdler; Rick (and Sara) Girdler and Jeff Girdler; 5 grandchildren: Brandon (and Lindsey) Girdler, Chris (and Courtney) Girdler, Kelly Girdler (and Levi) Barnes, Francesca Girdler (and Tim) Micek, and Megan Girdler (and Jason) Weatherford; 5 great-grandchildren: Charleston Girdler, Brady, Sophie and Kate Barnes and Farrah Linlee Micek. Also surviving is a sister, Nina (Hoy) Blevins of Somerset, and a brother, Brent (Joyce) Girdler of Yorktown, Indiana. Sisters-in-law: Mildred Girdler and Marie Girdler; Lula Dick, and a brother-in-law, Algar Beasley, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who all mourn his passing.
Other than his parents and wife, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers: Henry (Mildred) Girdler and Ed (Marie) Girdler; and his sisters: Lena (Lawrence) McPheron, Nora (Bill) Neikirk and Oma (Henry) Pence.
Roy was a life-long and faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a Church Treasurer for many years.
Roy was a NAPA Auto Parts sales clerk, where he was known by many as an avid baseball fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers-now the Los Angeles Dodgers, and a huge supporter of Nascar legend, Dale Earnhardt.
The family of Roy Girdler will receive friends and family for visitation on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. The funeral will be on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. all being held at Pulaski Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
