Dorwin M. Hargis, 81, of Somerset passed away on Sunday, September 22 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital after battling a long illness. He was born May 6, 1932 at Ula, Ky and was the son of Mitchell and Mary Woodall Hargis. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen Wyatt Hargis. They were married on March 17, 1955. Other survivors include two sons, Joey (Chloe) Hargis, and David (Beth) Hargis, both of Somerset, KY, and one daughter in law, Ann Hargis, of Lexington, KY. Also surviving are two brothers, Don (Martha) Hargis of Lexington, KY, and William (Bill) Hargis, of Mt. Sterling, KY, and three sisters, Ruby Rose Barnes, Faye Vaught, and Louise (Marvin) Phillips, all of Somerset. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Sara (Brian) Foos of Columbia, KY, Lindsey (Steven) Lashley, Kristi (Chad) Shipp, and Logan and Zachary Hargis, all of Somerset, and Erin (Jonathan) Huff and Nathan (Stephanie) Hargis, of Lexington, KY, along with seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by one son, Timothy D. Hargis, of Lexington, KY. He served with the 4th Infantry, 8th Regiment during the Korean war, from 1950-52, and was stationed in Germany. He led music at several area churches for many years, and instilled his love for music in his children and grandchildren. He sang for years for in a gospel quartet with two of his sons. He loved to go fishing. His greatest pride was when his whole family was around him, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Langdon Street Baptist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24, after 5p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home and after 9.a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, at Langdon Street Baptist Church until time for funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Jerry Chandler and Bro. Darry Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post # 38. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Pulaski Funeral Home.
