Raymond Alcorn, of Somerset was born July 1, 1920 at High Bridge , Kentucky, son of the late Arthur and Anna Belle Gilbert Alcorn, he departed this life on May 9,2008 in Wilmore, Kentucky having attained the age of 87 years.
Raymond is survived by one daughter; Ellen (and Dan ) Coomer of Somerset; one son, Stephen (and Joanne) Alcorn of Winter Haven, Florida; Three grandchildren, Matthew Coomer of Lexington, Mark Coomer New York, New York, Libby Alcorn, Zurich, Switzerland; three great-grand children, Matthew Coomer of Lexington, Sarah Ellen Coomer of Lexington, Tommy Coomer of Lexington; three nieces, Gloria Sams, Somerset; Patricia Gainey of Greenwood,IN and Kathy Guiliani of Greenwood IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; Geneva Pennington Alcorn and a sister Maedell Alcorn Dykes Henderson.
Mr. Alcorn retired after 20 years with the U, S. Navy serving during all of WWII on navy ships in combat, he also retired from the Indiana school system in maintenance for many years, he had many interests; dog trainer, a member of Southern Indiana Birmingham Club where he trained and flew pidgeons ,he was a member of Englewood Masonic Lodge #715 Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana for over 50 years.
Grave side services will be held on Tuesday May 13, 2008 at Mill Springs National Cemetery at 2:30 p m. with military honors conducted by American Legion #38 honor guard.
The family of Mr. Raymond Alcorn will receive friends at Pulaski Funeral Home Tuesday May 13, 2008 from 12:30 pm. until 2:00 pm.
