Carolyn Marie Godbey Whitis, age 67, of Somerset, KY, went to rest in the arms of God on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Hospice of lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center surrounded by her family.
Carolyn was born on December 14, 1945 to the late Wallace and Nancy Spears Godbey. She loved watching her grandson; D. J. bowl; her granddaughter, Amanda, play ball. She also enjoyed shopping at Goodwill, going to flea markets and yard sales attending Gospel singings, and going to Denham Street Baptist Church where she has been a member since 1999. Carolyn retired from the Oakwood Training Center in 2001.
Survivors include her husband; Mr. Edwin “Ed” Whitis, whom she married on October 12, 1968; tow children blessed this union. They are Lorna (and Don) Haynes and Rodney (and Sherri) Whitis; her two grandchildren, D. J. and Amanda Haynes, and a grand dog, Derby all of Somerset, Kentucky; Also surviving are two brothers, Floyd (and Ruby) Godbey of Dayton, Ohio, and Ben (and Ina) Godbey of Somerset, Kentucky; two sisters, Gladys Lesch of Louisville, Kentucky and Norma Wilhoite of Westfield, Indiana; one brothers and sisters-in-law, James (and Ernestine) Whitis, Viola Pike, Margaret Poindexter, Harold Whitis, Bob (and Betty) Whitis, Paulette (and Morris) Murphy all of Somerset, Kentucky, Edna Floyd of Lexington, Kentucky and Mary Lee (and Dan) Mink of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; her best lifetime friend, Opal Roy of Science Hill, Kentucky and a host of other family and friends.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by; one brother, Gyrstal Godbey; father and mother-in-law, James & Mary Bell (Goff) Whitis; brother and sisters-in-law, Raymond Lesch, Buddy Wilhoite, Carl Whitis, Maxine & Bud Johnson, Pearl & John Hall, Lena & James McQueen, Herbert Whitis, Gene Floyd, and Bobby Poindexter and two grand dogs, Zaya & Casey.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Griffith and Bro. David Muse officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Carolyn Whitis will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013. In Lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the American Cancer Society.
