Ronald Preston "Sonny" Cress, age 77, passed away in the early morning hours or July 23, 2013 at the VA hospital in Lexington, KY. Sonny was born June 29, 1936 to Pansy (Ping) and Ed Cress of Pulaski County, one of twelve children. He graduated from Shopville High School in 1955.
He served in the Navy, on board the USS Shangri La and the USS Intrepid as part of the Fifth Naval District from the years 1957-1963. Afterward he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where he met his wife Velma Rhea Ball of 49 years. He is survived by two children, Lisa Maertz and Tracy Cress, Two grandchildren: Danielle and Miranda Maertz and Son-in-law, Scott. The remaining siblings include: Emma Jane, Ludema (Sis), Linda, Dotty and Kenneth. Preceded in death by his siblings; James Alden, Norman, Hubert Clinton, Arlene, Helen Augusta and Gloria June and parents Ed and Pansy (Ping) Cress.
Sonny worked for more than 29 years for Pilot Chemical Company, where he was known as a diligent, trusted, and skilled worker. He retired in 1997, and spent his remaining years in his hometown in Pulaski County where he enjoyed working puzzles, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Eugene Tarter officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
The family of Ronald Preston “Sonny” Cress will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until time for services.
