Louise Combs, daughter of the late Johnny B. and Hepsa Mayfield Barnes, was born in Independence, Kansas on May 1, 1919 and she departed this life in Somerset, KY on July 11, 2013 at the age of 94 years.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Raymond Combs in Rossville, GA on September 10, 1950, he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter Judy Ann (and Jim) Whitaker of Somerset, KY; three grandchildren, Lisa (and Dewayne) Walker, Scott (and Jo Ellen) Whitaker, and Jason (and Amanda) Combs all of Somerset, KY; six great grandchildren, Emily Walker, and Wesley Walker, Tyler Whitaker, and Jase Combs, Haley Combs, and Clay Combs all of Somerset, KY; one sister, Betty Jean Hargis, she is also survived by a special caregiver and companion; Arleen Crowder and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Jim Combs; two brothers, Herbert Leon and Harold B.J. Barnes; and one sister, Ruby June Phelps.
Louise was a local entrepreneur having owned and operated several businesses, each of which she was very dedicated and successful. She was a member of the Somerset First Baptist Church for more than 60 years. When she was younger she also was the Vice Chairman of the Pulaski County Republican Party, she served on the Advisory Committee during Louie Nunn's Administration, , she was a delegate to the 1984 Republican National Convention in New Orleans, she represented the county in the Kentucky Republican Women's Federation "Tribute to Women" in 1987. She was active in the community and was a member of the Somerset Business and Professional Woman's Club, and the Somerset Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce. She has always held politics close to her heart and was born into a family of Republicans. She was a kind lady who loved her family, her church, her community and her country with all her heart.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Somerset First Baptist Church with Dr. French Harmon and Bro. David Pendley officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnesburg Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Louise Combs will receive friends at the Somerset First Baptist Church after 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday the 16th, until after services.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Barnesburg Cemetery Fund, envelopes will be provided at the church.
