Mrs. Jessie Jewell Tarter

Mrs. Jessie Jewell Tarter, daughter of the late James Blaine and Minnie Meeks Lawless, was born in Casey County, Kentucky on Monday, September 14, 1925 and she departed this life on Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Somerset, Kentucky having attained the age of 87 years 9 months and 6 days. She was united in marriage to Mr. Linville Tarter, he preceded her in death on October 15, 2009. Survivors include; two sons, James Linville (and Patty) Tarter and Barry Mark (and Sharon) Tarter; one daughter, Brenda Joyce (and Lynn) Sowder; ten grandchildren, Kara Mounce Poole, Audra Mounce Rogers, Lucas Tarter, Alisha Tarter Wilson, Angela Tarter Harrison, Josh Tarter, Kellie Tarter Harris, Emily Sowder Smith, Ryan Thomas Sowder, and Rebekah Jewell Sowder LeJeune; fourteen great-grandchildren with one more on the way.; also surviving are 2 sisters, Violet Lawless Buis, and Mary Jean Lawless Vaughn. Other than her parents and husband, Jewell was preceded in death by; two brothers, Otis Lawless and James Robert Lawless; and two sisters, Stella Lawless Bell, Fayrene Lawless McAlpin. Mrs. Tarter was a member of the Saline Baptist Church, she was the Co-Founder of Young World, and she was a wonderful loving mother who enjoyed cooking, which she done very well. Mrs. Tarter leaves a host of relatives, friends and church family who mourn her passing. Funeral services for Mrs. Tarter will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon, June 24, 2013 at the Saline Baptist Church with Rev. Noah Broughton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Jessie Jewell Tarter will receive friends at the Saline Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. Monday morning until time for services. In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503 or The Camp Canaan Retreat Fund c/o Saline Baptist Church 2685 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503.
