Orous Clyde Gooch, affectionately known as “ Pa Gooch,” 90, of Woodstock community, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Rockcastle Hospital in Mount Vernon following a long illness.
Orous was born on June 5, 1917 in Small, KY, son of the late Clyde Fountain Gooch and Versie May Reynolds Gooch. He had four brothers and three sisters, all who have preceded him in death. His brothers were Hobert Gooch, Duke and Lillian Gooch, Ed Gooch, and Nolan Gooch. His sisters were Vernie and Joe Ping, Verla and Bill Hamilton, and Nola and Lloyd McClure.
Orous was united in marriage to Hazel Poynter on December 25, 1936. She preceded him in on April 30, 2004. He is survived by two daughters, Doris Gooch and her husband Bill of Crab Orchard, KY and Ora Lee Hurst and her husband Donald of Brodhead, KY. He is also survived by a son, Robert Gooch of Somerset, KY. A daughter Deborah Lynn Gooch, preceded him in death.
Pa Gooch will be fondly remembered by his 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Orous was a member of the Woodstock Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and former Sunday School Teacher. He was a cattle dealer and farmer by trade. His hobbies were gardening and mowing the yard. He was a kind, big-hearted who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services for Orous Clyde Gooch will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Woodstock Baptist Church in Somerset, KY. Rev. Zansdell Hasty and Rev. Cecil Roundtree will be officiating.
Family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2008 in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.
Orous will be laid to rest beside his wife and daughter at the Woodstock Cemetery.
