Esma Mae Hardwick Casada, 104, a long time resident of the Somerset area, passed away on January 27, 2013 at the Cumberland Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on December 5, 1908 in Kidder, Kentucky to Arthur and Alice Hardwick.
As a young woman, she attended the Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College. She was present when the first Ford Car was manufactured and enjoyed the roaring 20’s era along with women’s efforts to be independent voters. She experienced and saw a lot of American history pass in the local area. At the age of 102 she experienced independent grocery shopping with supervision and self checkout at Wal-Mart.
Esma was a hard worker and home manager, and devoted wife and mother to her family. She outlived her husband, Mr. Willie Casada and four daughters, Christine Frisbie, Louise Lovell, Maud Price, and Wilma Casada. Surviving grandchildren include; Lois Borin and Allen Frisbie, along with three great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Living brothers and sisters include; Iva Dalton, Curtis Hardwick, Lowell Hardwick, and Elizabeth Jean Jenkins and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was a truly strong lady and matriarch of the family and will be solely missed.
The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by a funeral service on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Butte officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions in her name to Parker's Mill Baptist Church or Oak Hill Baptist Church.
