Jack "Tuffy" Hahn

Jack “Tuffy” Hahn, age 85, passed away Tuesday evening January 15, 2013 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Hahn was Born November 11, 1927 in Somerset, KY. Hahn was a 1945 graduate of Somerset high School. He was a quarterback for the Somerset briar jumpers. Tuffy was a superb athlete and accounted for both scores in Somerset’s 13-7 defeat of Danville snapping the Jumpers 18 year losing streak to the Admirals. Hahn went on to attend Xavier University and played defensive halfback for the Musketeers. Hahn picked off a pass early in an arch rival game between Cincinnati and Xavier and returned it 98 yards. That play is still the longest touchdown run in Xavier’s football history. Hahn helped to cap off the 1951 Xavier football season as the only undefeated season in its history. After serving in the U.S. navy and playing on numerous Navy athletic teams, Hahn returned to Cincinnati where he worked as a baseball umpire calling the Cincinnati city championship for 6 consecutive years. After officiating many high school football and basketball games, he returned home to Somerset. He was recreational director at Oakwood for 15+ years and was most recently inducted in to the Somerset Hall of fame in October of 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Mary Margaret Mcalpin Hahn (also of Somerset, KY). He is succeeded in death by 2 sons, Jack and Jeff Hahn of Cincinnati and grandchildren Cynthia and Matt Hahn also of Cincinnati as well as stepdaughter Susi Mcalpin Bandy (Don Bandy of Somerset) and grandchildren Juli Burton Smith (Bracken Smith of Somerset, KY), Jody Bandy (Somerset, KY), and Hope Bandy Bentley (Josh Bentley of Lexington, Ky.) Tuffy was an avid lover and walker of dogs, most specifically his best friends, Savannah, Bows I and Bows II. He was loved by all of his colleagues, friends and family. He always had a smile on his face and actively demonstrated his love for others as well as his love for Jesus Christ. Hahn was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Somerset Ky.
