Bro. Edwin Watkins, age 86 of Somerset, Kentucky son of the late Mary (Phelps) and James Watkins was born on September 10, 1926 in Somerset, Kentucky and departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at his residence in the presence of his family.
Other than his parents Bro. Watkins was preceded in death by his first wife: Bertie (Haynes) Watkins, Second wife: Thelma Speaks Watkins, brother: Leon Watkins, sister: Betty Watkins Haynes and 3 other siblings that passed at infancy and one grandchild: Bobbi Jo Heath.
Bro. Watkins is survived by a son: Edwin “Buddy” (and Bethel) Watkins Jr. of McCreary County, 2 daughters: Oretta (and Steve) Littrell and Wanda White both of Somerset, 1 brother: Delbert (and Eva) Watkins of Alliance, Ohio, 2 sisters: Eva Taylor and Elva Godby both of Somerset. Bro. Watkins also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Kami Spears, Crystal Pennington, Jeremy White, Jason Heath, Tyler Watkins and Trevor Watkins, 5 great-grandchildren: Shelby Watson, Ashlynn Pennington, Logan Pennington, Ryann White, Rylee Sears and a host of family and friends who all mourn his passing.
Bro. Watkins served his lord for 34 years as the Minister of Zion Baptist Church of Pulaski County and was retired from the Cooper Power Plant. Bro. Watkins loved his Lord, loved his Church, loved his family and loved gardening, fishing and traveling. Edwin was a very kind and loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Haynes Cemetery.
The family of Bro. Edwin Watkins will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Pulaski Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers family request expressions of sympathy can be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
