Mrs. Helen Estep Hansford, daughter of the late Clemon and Gertie Whitis Estep, was born in Somerset, KY on February 3, 1935 and she departed this life on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from complications from a malignant Brain Tumor. She was 77.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Sherman Hansford, he preceded her in death; two children blessed this union, Greg Hansford of Somerset, KY and Sheila Hansford, also of Somerset, KY. They both survive. Other survivors include; Clinton (and Jean) Estep of Somerset, KY, Sylvia (and Larry) Randolph of Bellefontaine, OH, Francis (and E. J.) Jones of Somerset, KY, Iva Dean (and Howard) Renner of Somerset, KY, Willard (and Lois) Hansford of Somerset, KY and Linda (and Stan) Stevenson of Nancy, KY. Helen also is survived by several aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and friends who mourn her passing.
Other that her parents, and husband, she was also preceded in death by; one sister, Mary Estep who died in infancy, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur “Brownie” Hansford and Irene Poynter Hansford, her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Faye Keller Estep, Bob Keller and Howard Estep.
Helen was a deputy sheriff and office clerk during the term of Sheriff Sherman Hansford. She was also the Executive Assistant at the Pulaski County School Districts Superintendents Office, and she was elected as a school board member for the Pulaski County School District; her other accomplishments include, but are not limited to the following; she was a 50 year + member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she was a member of the Kentucky Public Retirees, she was active in local, state, and national Republican politics, was an active member of Senior Friends - Lake Cumberland Chapter, and she was inducted into the Pulaski County Lincoln Club Hall of Fame, and the Republican 5th District Hall of Fame.
Helen enjoyed being with family and friends. She loved animals, and was an avid bird watcher. As a tribute to her late husband, Sherman Hansford, she enjoyed knowing that her farming operation was going well - she would often go to the farm and walk the land and count the cattle. She enjoyed all types of music, she was a HUGE Kentucky Wildcat fan and she also supported the Louisville Cardinals unless they played her beloved wildcats.
The family of Helen Hansford would like to take this opportunity to thank the following caregivers that were there during Helens final days, they are; Leisa, Bonnie, Iva, and Jessica. Helen also received excellent care at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Her Doctors were wonderful, they were Dr. Dixon, Dr. El-Kaliney, and Dr. Khan. The staff of Hospice of Lake Cumberland were also outstanding and a special word of thanks goes out to nurse Nina and Chaplin Greg Ryan. Thank you to the staff of the Highlands, and the wonderful supportive staff of the First Baptist Church . Thank you to Dr. French Harmon, David Pendley and John Wilson and also Pulaski Funeral Home for their compassionate care and concern during this time.
Funeral services for Helen Hansford will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Somerset, KY with Bro. John Wilson, Dr. French Harmon, and bro. David Pendley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Mrs. Helen Hansford will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Somerset, KY after 5:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Eden Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the Pulaski County Animal Shelter.
