William Max Flynn

William Maxwell, “Max” Flynn, 83, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Lake Cumberland Hospital. Born April 7, 1929 he was the son of the late Grover and Lydia Chambers Flynn. He graduated from Ferguson High School, and joined the Marine Corps. When he returned, he attended Eastern Kentucky University. After college, he returned to Somerset where he became owner- operator of Vortex corner and Truesdell Wilson Sales and Service. He was a major stockholder of First and Farmers National Bank and held the position of Executive Vice-President. After the sale of the Bank, he developed Eagle’s Nest Golf and Country Club on Hwy. 39 in Somerset. Upon its completion, he was employed by the Kentucky Department of Transportation, and served as district liaison between District 8 and the Governor’s Office in Frankfort until his retirement in 2005. He married Joyce Keeney Warner on November 6, 1968, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mary Ann Flynn, Somerset, Jan Elizabeth Flynn, Frankfort, KY, Kimberly and (Barry) Garner, Somerset, and one son, Charles Kevin Warner, Lexington, KY. Surviving grandchildren are: Stephanie E. Hawk, Sarah E. Ikerd, Christopher Douglas (Heather) McKee; Adam Flynn (Angie) McKee, Laura Catherine “Catie” (Andreas) Bilz, Callie Anne Garner, and Gordon Farley. Great-grandchildren are: Kelli Hawk, Kendahl Hawk, Logan Hawk, Shannon Ray Smith, Lucas James McKee, and Laila Elizabeth McKee. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Flynn Morgan, Lake Wawasee, Indiana; Robert (Delores) Flynn, Naples Florida; Fred Flynn, Kokomo, Indiana; Jesse (Norma) Flynn, Somerset, sister-in-law, Paula Flynn, Somerset, and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, first wife, Elizabeth Ann Pierce, and two brothers, Dock Flynn, Lexington, KY, and Joe Flynn, Somerset preceded him in death. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, at First Baptist Church, Somerset, KY with Dr. French Harmon officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Somerset. Burial will be in Somerset City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, Somerset, or to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, and Somerset, KY 42503. Pulaski Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
