Winnie Wood Tarter, age 93, 7461 W. Highway 80, Nancy, Kentucky 42544, passed away at her home on November 1, 2007 in the presence of her family. She was born in the Naomi community on May 15, 1914 to Joe D. and Margaret Elizabeth Daulton Wood.
Winnie trusted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 14 and was a member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church where she was faithful as long as her health permitted.
Winnie was married to Arleigh L. Tarter on September 11, 1937 and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1980.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Tarter and Carolyn T. Butcher, both of Nancy, Kentucky and a foster son Gilbert Daniel (Danny) Grubbs, also of Nancy. She is also survived by one grandson, Patrick J. (and Jessica) Butcher of Rose Hill, Virginia, and three great-grandchildren, Kobe, Kaelyn and Kyndal Butcher. Also surviving are four sister-in-laws, Mildred Wood, of Rockford IL., Geneva Tarter of Nancy, Alfreda Tarter and Bernice Tarter both of Somerset.
She was Preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters, Ella Taylor, Vida Norfleet and Beatrice Prather; five Brothers, Herbert, Hobert, Harry and Marvin Wood.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Morris and Rev. Patrick Butcher officiating. Family will recieve friends on Friday November 2, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. Family requests in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy take form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
