Walter Leon Strunk, age 84, of Ohio Street passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Born June 27, 1927, in Somerset, Walter was the son of the late Dewey and Zella Strunk and was the husband of Mildred Cornett Strunk whom he married on December 3, 1953, in Somerset.
Other than his wife, he is survived by three sons, Dr. Roger Strunk of Frankfort, KY, Alan (Suzanne) Strunk of Lexington, KY, and Richard (Tracey) Strunk of Somerset, KY; two daughters, Judy (Stephen) McClanahan of Loveland, OH, and Janet Campbell of Lexington, KY; and one sister, Mary Belle Catron of Franklin, TN.
He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Hannah (David) Atkins, Elizabeth Strunk, Noah Strunk, Corinna (Matthew) Schroeder, Alyssa McClanahan, Kegan McClanahan, Ingrid Strunk, Wesley Strunk, Clark Strunk, Kirstyn Campbell, Brendan Campbell, Nicholas Duncan, and Chloe Strunk.
As a devoted father, he served as a leader in Boy Scouts for twenty two years and was the father of three Eagle Scouts. Walter served Troop 82 as Patrol Dad, Assistant Scout Master, Troop Committee member and for fourteen years as the Scout Master.
Walter was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Somerset beginning as a cradle roll member as an infant. He taught Sunday school for thirty years, was president of Methodist Men, and a member of the Board of Trustees.
He served his country for two years in the US Army Signal Corp during the Korean Conflict.
Walter worked for forty years as a key systems installer for General Telephone Company
He was a beloved father and always enjoyed the time he spent with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family, church and many close friends.
Visitation will be Monday evening, April 23, 2012, from 6 pm to 9 pm at Pulaski Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mills Springs National Cemetery with a full honor guard.
