Milton Charles Beattie, age 76 of Somerset departed this life suddenly on Friday March 2, 2012 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born on March 28, 1935 in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Virginia Gover Beattie. He is survived by his wife Lona Marie Edwards Beattie, whom he married on March 30, 1958 and four children; Carolyn Beattie Crowhurst (and Mike), David Beattie (and Sonya), and Charles Beattie, all of Somerset, and Julie Beattie Gregory (and Anthony) of Science Hill; Eight grandchildren: Kimberly Jones, Lucas Beattie, Erin Beattie, Michael Crowhurst, Daniel Crowhurst, Chelsea Gregory, Lillian Beattie, Carson Beattie and one step granddaughter, Erica Gregory Padgett (and Stephen). He was a graduate of Somerset High School Class of 1953 and the University of Kentucky, College of Engineering Class of 1957. He started his career at the Kentucky Department of Highways, continued at Tennessee Valley Authority, Knoxville, Tennessee, and returned to Somerset in 1971 to work at the City of Somerset Gas Service, General Electric Glass Plant, and various engineering consulting endeavors. Additionally Mr. Beattie loved his community and served on the Somerset High School Hall of Fame committee, Citizens National Bank Advisory Board, and the Somerset-Pulaski County Industrial Foundation. A faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, Mr. Beattie was an avid sports fan especially Somerset Briar Jumpers and University of Kentucky basketball. He also enjoyed fishing. Visitation for Milton Charles Beattie will be Sunday evening, March 4, 2012 after 5:00 p.m. in the historical sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 128 North Main Street, Somerset, Kentucky. Funeral services will also be conducted at this location on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11 o’clock in the morning with Brother Gilbert Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy in the form of donations to Lottie Moon Foreign Missions offering and the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Milton Beattie.
