Mr. Barkley Forrest Colson, age. 87, of Slate Branch Community, son of the late McGarvey and Bessie (Littrell) Colson, was born on February 13, 1924 in Pulaski County, Kentucky and departed this life on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Neighborhood. Other than his parents Mr. Colson was preceded in death by his wife; Betty (Tucker) Colson who passed away on October 15, 2008 and three brothers; Noble, Clay and Calfee Colson. Mr. Colson is survived by 2 sons; James B. Colson of Science Hill, Kentucky, Jeffrey L. Colson of Somerset, 1 daughter Anne (and David) Dick of Bronston, 3 grandchildren Forrest L. Colson of Somerset, Rebecca (and Ryan) Cash of Science Hill and Jamie R. Colson of Somerset. He also leaves behind 1 great-grandson; Andrew Walker Cash of Science Hill and a host of relatives and friends who all mourn his passing. Mr. Colson was a member of the Southern Heights Christian Church and a veteran of the United States Army where he served our country in WWII and was a recipient of 2 Bronze Stars and received a Purple Heart. Mr. Colson graduated from Nancy High School and earned a degree in Agriculture from the University of Kentucky. He was the Vice President of Cumberland Production Credit Association and former President of Pulaski County Farm Bureau. Barkley also worked as Farmer and was the former President of Lake Cumberland Feeder Calf Association and a former board member of Southern States. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Short and Bro. Joel Patton officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery in Eubank. The family of Mr. Barkley F. Colson will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Pulaski Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers family request expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Barkley Forrest Colson.
