Ruby Arney McWilliams, a resident of the Neighborhood Assisted Living Community of Somerset, passed away January 25, 2012 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was 97 years old.
Ruby was born August 15, 1914 at Bee Lick, KY in Northern Pulaski County, the daughter of the late Burgess G. and Mattie Farthing Arney and the youngest of seven children. She attended Thompson School in that community. At age twenty, she married Clyde McWilliams on December 25, 1934. They lived their lives together as farmer and homemaker in the Bee Lick / Bandy community until Clyde's death on November 23, 1993. They were married almost fifty-nine years at the time of his passing.
Ruby was a devout Christian and was a long-time member of the Liberty Baptist Church in northern Pulaski County where she sang and taught some Sunday School classes over the years. After moving to Somerset, she became a member of the Ferguson Baptist Church. She so enjoyed her Sunday School class there as long as she was able to attend She loved the ladies in that class as well as many in the church family over her years as a member there.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Leonard, and John Arney; three sisters, Mae Stringer, Marie Acton and Fannye Laws Albright as well as some nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter Myrna Deel and her husband Grayson of Somerset; granddaughter Melanie Lockwood and her husband Jack of Villa Rica, GA; great-grandsons Grant and Kyle Lockwood of Villa Rica, GA and several dear and special nephews and nieces.
Ruby’s family would like to take this opportunity to provide a special thanks to the caring staff at the Neighborhood Assisted Living for their kindness and care to Ruby; to Mrs. Helen Jones, her special friend at the Neighborhood; to Lifeline nurses, especially Melissa who cared for her for several weeks; and a very special thanks to Dr. Rodney Oakes who cared for her so well for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Darvie Fenison officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery located in the Bee Lick Community, of northern Pulaski County.
The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2012.
In lieu of flowers the family of Mrs. Ruby McWilliams requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
